The Lead Desk

The front page is reserved for original reporting. Nothing runs here until it has passed source review and fact check.

Coming at launch

Featured coverage begins at launch

The Crafty Observer is preparing its first original articles — reporting, research summaries, reviews, and event coverage across all five desks. The lead slot stays empty until the first story clears the full editorial workflow. No placeholders dressed up as news, ever.

Original reporting Sources verified Corrections on the record

The launch goal

Publish 5–10 original articles to build a reporting portfolio before pursuing major press credentials — the same standard this publication will hold every contributor to.

— From the Master Plan, v1.0

How a story earns this page

Draft → source review → fact check → editorial approval → publication. Every stage is documented, and mistakes are corrected transparently, in the open.

The Publication

About / Masthead

The Crafty Observer is an independent media outlet focused on the intersection of space, science, technology, gaming, collectibles, and related culture.

We create original content — news coverage, research summaries, product reviews, and community discussions — to help people stay informed and explore the things they're curious about. Through news, research, reviews, community, and original content, we aim to make complex topics more accessible and engaging for everyone.

The publication is built to the standard of a working newsroom: contributor identities and sources are verified, nothing is published without editorial review, and the founder keeps final editorial control. It starts as a one-person newsroom and is designed to grow — carefully, and only with contributors who meet the same bar.

How We Work

Editorial Standards

These standards are in force from the first article — they are the launch, not an afterthought.

Facts first, labels always

  • Evidence before publication. Factual claims are verified against original sources wherever possible, and information is attributed appropriately.
  • Every piece is labeled for what it is:
Verified factAttributed statementAnalysisOpinionReviewUnconfirmed
  • No fabricated quotes or sources. No unsupported allegations about individuals, and no speculation about anyone's private motives presented as fact.
  • Right of reply. Serious allegations get an appropriate opportunity to respond before publication.

Corrections & workflow

  • Corrections are transparent. Factual mistakes are corrected in the open, with the change noted — never silently rewritten.
  • Disclosures are published: conflicts of interest, sponsorships, and complimentary review products are declared on the piece.
  • Nothing runs unreviewed. Contributor submissions require identity verification, source verification, and editorial approval.
